Baartmans and Siegel SS13

Showcasing their SS13 Collection ‘On Schedule’ for the first time as part of London Collections:Men, design duo BAARTMANS AND SIEGEL’s presentation of ‘Cuban Crab Catchers’ took place early morning on Sunday. Exhibiting in a modern hybrid between runway and installation, Baartmans and Siegel were inspired by a strange natural phenomenon that happens each spring in Cuba-‘Crab invasions’- millions of red and blue shelled crustaceans emerge from the surrounding bays of Cuba- taking over the island- to find their partner.

While looking at the colours of these animals- the design duo were more broadly inspired by the deep-rooted marine and fishermen culture/history of Cuba. The collection creatively married the relaxed atmosphere of the island- with the nostalgic hues and colours, mixed cultural influences and retro styles, fantasising of being transported to the Deco Raleigh Hotel in Miami Beach or room 511 of hotel Ambos Mundos in Havana (where Ernest Hemingway stayed in the 1930s).
